Parish Notes January 2010

Happy New Year to all our friends in the Diocese, what’s that all two of them! And to the rest of ye after stuffing ye`re self’s with mince pies over the festive season I hope yere imprint as ye move around isn’t as big as ye`re carbon foot print!
December was a busy month not just for Santa Claus; we had a Family Social on Sat 6th Dec. in St James` Hall Mallow with over seventy in attendance from the very, very young to the very, very old. Great fun was had by all and in the course of the evening we identified some emerging musical talent that we hope will form a part of our worship group that we are in the process of forming. On Wednesday 10th Dec. the parents association of Mallow No. 1 School held a coffee morning, a raffle and a cake sale at which over €1,200 was raised, we would like to thank all those who contributed to it. Those who sold tickets, sponsored prizes, or donated produce. On Dec 16th a whist drive was held in St James hall, a great night was had by all.
Carol Services where held In St James Mallow, St. Mary’s Doneraille, St Mary’s Castletownroche, St. Johns Buttevant, funds  raised where distributed between Cope Foundation Mallow, Bishops Appeal and The Haven Centre. I would like to thank all those who were involved in the planning of these services. We are great full to the singer’s musicians, choirs and all those who prepared the Churches. We would particularly like to thank the Choir from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Doneraille who joined us for the Carol Service. We would also like to express our gratitude to Mr Nicholas Mc Murry and the Cor Mhagh Ealla choir who sang at the Mallow Carol Service, Nicholas and Cor Mhagh Ealla have been great friends to the Mallow Union having held a number of recitals in aid of the Castletownroche Organ repair fund.
The Friends of St Johns Buttevant, held their annual bazzarre on Sunday 30th of November, we would like to thank all those who came out in support of it and those who donated prizes. We hope RG from the Bandon area enjoyed his beer! Or at least it didn’t rot his false teeth!
Please note that from Sunday 4th of January, service times in Doneraille will be 9.15am and Castletownroche will be 10.30am.
Confirmation will be on Sunday 1st February 2009 in St. James` Church Mallow.
Baptism. On Sunday 30th November we celebrated the baptism of  Marvellous daughter to Joy and Nath  Ubogu. Joy and Nath are very active members of St James` since they came here from Blackrock parish, indeed some of their friends from there joined us for the baptism ceremony and for the celebration afterwards which was held in the Church  Hall.
Wedding: On Sunday 12th October 2008. Rachel Elizabeth Cassey, of Wallstown Castle,  Castletownroche  married Timothy Killian Holland of Dromboy, Carrignavar. He is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Holland of Dromboy, Carrignavar.
Just as we rejoice with those who rejoice we mourn with those who mourn. We would like to express our condolences with Ronnie and Bea Roberts on the death of Bea`s sister Mrs. Jenny Horobin who died recently in England. We would also like to extend our deepest sympathy to Emily and John de Montfort on the death of Emily’s mother Mrs. Joan Mc Dowell of Celbridge, Co. Kildare. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
