Rev Denis MacCarthy’s Diocesan Notes

I hope you all had a nice summer and got an opportunity to take a holiday. Among the many visitors we had in St. James` during the summer were a Baptist Youth Choir from Ohio, on Thursday the 15th July they put on a free concert in St. James Church, as part of their stay here in Mallow they became involved in projects to aid the local community.

On Sunday July 11th Avril Gubbins with the aid of Ina Lillis held a Children’s Family Service in St Mary’s Doneraile, which had an attendance of over seventy people, among them were a number of families who attended our church for the first time. Apart from placing notices in the local shops, Avril, also placed notices on cars in Doneraile Park, which led to a number of people taking up the invitation to join us for worship and has led to at least one request for baptism. The second Sunday in the month is now designated for Family Service in Doneraile.

On Saturday 8th August in St Mary’s Church Doneraile we celebrated the Baptism of Ruby Margaret Sweetnam, daughter to Pauline and Neville Sweetnam.
On Saturday the 21st August, John and Jean Gardiner held a Vegetable Sale at their home in Mount North Ballyclough, in aid of Parish Funds. Teas and Coffee was also served cakes were supplied by Linda Dean.

I would like to thank John and jean for their generosity and for opening their home to all of us.

Youth Club will be starting up again on Friday night 17th September at 8.00pm in St James` Hall.
