Diocesan Notes

The end of last year St. James Church Mallow did alot of work on the tower to keep out the birds and repainted the inner part of the tower area. Thanks to all involved in getting this work sorted so quickly. Now we have a problem with the heating system in the hall in Mallow and will possibly have to renew the heating system.

A thank you note has been received from William Lysaght for the donation received from the Mallow Union Parishioners as a result of his house been destroyed by fire on New Years Eve.

It was at our recent vestry meeting that the news broke of Emmanuel Adebisi deportation from Ireland. It was decided at the vestry meeting that we would get parishioners if they wished to sign a petition in all three churches and send it to Dublin. He is appealing his case and we pray that things will change. We also think and pray for his wife Maryanne and family, Soleman, Rachel and Esther at this time.

Mothers Union and Friends

On Wednesday the 18th January we had a Holy Communion service in the Rectory at 8pm at which Ann Ladd was enrolled as a member of Mothers Union. We congratulate her and welcome her to Mothers Union. Following this we had our AGM and made our plans for the year. We had our annual beetle Drive on Friday 11th February at 8pm in the Rectory. Thanks to Canon Eithne and Richard for the use of the Rectory and to all involved in getting the tables and chairs to the rectory and getting everything else sorted. We had eight tables playing and a great night was had by young and old. 160 Euro was raised and 12 Euro was collected by a young girl selling small pictures all proceeds for the Mothers Union overseas funds.
Our next event is our Lady Day Service in Castletownroche on Friday 25th March at 8pm when the Fermoy Ladies will join with us for a Holy Communion Service.
Family Services
Our Family Services have been a great hit in the parish and not only with the children! Many adults are secretly reliving their youth as they sing along to the well known children’s hymns. They also enjoy the less formal Service. The Family Services will continue on the second Sunday of each month at 10.00 in Doneraile and Castletownroche and 11.45 in Mallow.

Congratulations to Billy and Hazel O’Keeffe on the arrival of their first grand-son Callum a son to Edel and David. Also to David and Marilyn Cassey, a second grand-son Issac a son to Rachel and Killian and a brother to Oscar.
Congratulations also to Anne Lysaght who celebrated her 80th Birthday recently.

Confirmation

If there is anyone interested in getting confirmation this year and hasn’t already contacted Canon Eithne please contact her as soon as possible. The Bishop wants all confirmation candidates to come to the gathering he holds each year in the Canon Packham Hall, Douglas. It is on 9th April and is always greatly enjoyed by those who attend.

Fundraising Committee

At a recent vestry meeting it was talked about setting up a Fundraising Committee. If there is anyone that would be interested in joining such a committee please contact Canon Eithne or Linda Deane Secretary.

Ash Wednesday is on the 9th March. There will be the usual Wednesday service in Mallow at 11am and there will be a service in Doneraile at 8pm.

St. Patrick Day There will be a service in Mallow at 11.30am on March 17th to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Congratulations to John Ardis on his appointment as chaplain to UCC and if there is anyone in the parish who is a student in UCC. Please give your name to Canon Eithne and she can pass it on to John who will look out for them.
