Thanks to all who prepared our Churches for the Easter Services and for attending all the Easter services.

Easter Vestry

Our Easter Vestry meeting was on Wednesday 18th April 2012 at 8pm in the Hall. Thanks to all who attended. Thanks to all those who allowed their names go forward for election again this year and thanks to all of last year’s vestry for all the work they did in the past 12 months.

Cherry Cup

Congratulations to our bellringing team who came third in the Cherry Cup and now head to Dublin on the 19th May for the Murphy Cup. We wish them well in this competition. The team of ringers were: Julia Lysaght, David Deane, Linda Deane, Roy Deane, Paul Deane and Robert Gardiner.

Past Events

Some of our members travelled to Ballyin Garden, Lismore on Wednesday 4th April for the prayer walk and had a very enjoyable afternoon followed by dinner in Lismore Hotel. (and even got their photo on the Avondhu). Some of our members went to the Beetle Drive in Fermoy and had great fun drawing beetles and won a lot of beetles.

Thanks to the Lismore MU ladies and the Fermoy MU ladies for their kind invitations. Our April meeting was on Tuesday 17th April. Our speaker Esther Cahill was unable to attend at the last minute due to bereavement. We thank Maryann and Emmanuel Adebisi who agreed to come at short notice and speak about their culture. Maryann showed us some of her native costumes and also how to create their beautiful Head dresses. Emmanuel gave a short talk on his culture and showed some pictures. Forth coming events Council meeting 17th May in Bandon 7.30pm

Festival service in St. Fachtna’s Cathedral Rosscarbery – Songs of Praise on Sunday 20th May at 3.30pm. ‘Mums in May’ is an All Ireland celebration of 125 years of MU in Ireland. There will be a tea party in every branch throughout the country. All proceeds will be sent to the Dublin headquarters of MU and will be used for projects at home and overseas. Some of the proceeds will come back to the diocese to support local projects. A souvenir recipe book “Teatime Treats” will be available. Canon Tom and Mrs. Hazel Sherlock has kindly agreed to host the tea party for this branch at their home in Castlequarter Kildorrery on Tuesday 22nd May from 3pm to 9pm. All welcome to attend.

Bible Club

Bible Club has finished for this season and thanks to all involved in the Good Friday service and Easter egg hunt. All the eggs were found and great fun was had by all the children.

Youth Club
Four of our young people travelled to Rosscarbery for Easter Saturday Night/Sunday Morning for the Sun up with their Leader Aoife Ladd. They have their last meeting on the 25th May in St. James Hall until after the summer.

Blackwater Social Club

The Blackwater Social Club AGM and planning meeting is on Tuesday 8th May at 8.30pm at Mark and Diana Buckley’s Bridgetown, Castletownroche. At this meeting we will be making arrangements for the BBQ and Ice Cream Sunday which is on Sunday 27th May at Mark and Diana Buckleys. The BBQ lunch is between 1pm and 2.30pm followed by games and ice-cream. This year the proceeds will go to Down Syndrome Ireland, Adair National School Fermoy and Mallow No 1 School. Admission €12 for Adults and €6 for Secondary and National School Children. This is a day out for all ages. If you need directions please contact Diana on 086/1547810.

Concert in St. James Mallow

Mark Slade has kindly offered to do a concert in Mallow at the end of May or early June date to be confirmed.

Birthday wishes to all who celebrated birthdays recently. I would personally like to thank all those who came to my 40th Birthday party on the 31st March in the Arches Mallow and made donations on the night or sent them on to me for Castletownroche Church Maintenance Fund.

Welcome

A special welcome to Rev. Michael Thompson as Chaplin of Kingston College, Mitchelstown.

Congratulations to William and Margaret Nagle on becoming grandparents again.

Sympathy

We express out sympathy to Ronnie Roberts on the death of his sister in England and also to Barbara Roberts Riordan on the death of her grandmother in Carlow. To Tommy Moore on the death of his brother William in Blarney and Ann Lysaght on the death of her niece’s husband after an accident.

Confirmation

We wish our six candidates well as they prepare for confirmation on the 9th September in Castletownroche. Nicola Barrett, Arthan Jansen, George Leger Mewis, Leah O’Flynn, Richard O’Sullivan and Matthew Wharton.

Events in the School Cake Sale We had a cake sale on Friday 30th March. We raised 237.78 euro from this and the money has been lodged into the school accounts.

Tesco Vouchers

We are still collecting Tesco Vouchers in school and would be delighted if pupils can bring in any vouchers you may get from family, neighbours, friends etc. Recycling clothes & mobile phones – fundraiser On 25th April, we received 133.50euro for our collection of clothes/mobile phones.

We thank you all very much for bringing in your black bags for this collection.

Quintet by Candlelight North Cork Classical Music

Quintet by Candlelight North Cork Classical Musicwill present their first concert of the year at St Colman’s Church, Farahy (nr Mitchelstown) at 6pm on Saturday 12 May. The Carducci String Quartet will be returning, this time with Michael O’Toole (guitar) to give what we’re sure will be a spirited performance of Boccherini’s Guitar Quintet no 4 – popularly known as the “Fandango”. The concert will also include music by Haydn, Philip Glass, Ian Wilson and Nikita Koshkin.
