Parish News – March 2013

On Tuesday 12th February at 8pm we held our pancake evening. It was a very sociable evening. Thank you to everyone who came. The pancakes were irresistible. A special thank you to Canon Tom and Mrs. Hazel Sherlock for hosting this event in their home and all the work Hazel put into this.

Forthcoming events

Opening Service
On Wednesday March 6th this will take place during the usual morning Holy Communion Service in Mallow at 11am.

Lady Day service
This will be included in the lent service in Doneraile on Wednesday March 20th at 8pm.

Commissioning Service
On Saturday 16th March the Commissioning service for new Mother’s Union Diocesan President Patsy Devoy will take place in St. Peter’s church Carrigrohane at 12 noon.

Prayer Walk
On March 27th during holy week we have been invited by the Lismore Mother’s Union to join with them on their prayer walk at 3pm. This will be led by Mrs. Gillian Kingston. It will take place in the home of Mr and Mrs. Philip Wingfield, Salterbridge House, Cappoquin. We will also get a tour of the house and afternoon tea costing €12. If anyone is interested in going please contact Ruth Sherlock.

Tex-Mex Supper
Thanks to Shirley, Brad and Brent for doing the Tex-Mex meal on Saturday 16th February in St. James Hall Mallow at 8pm. €405 was raised on the night for Parish funds.

Congratulations
Baby Robert Willetts was welcomed into the congregation at his baptism on 20th January. We were delighted that his parents, Saffron and Chris were able to arrange that both sets of grandparents were able to be with us from Kerry and England.

Also congratulations to Donna and Ivan Draper on the birth of their baby boy Adam a brother for Nicola and Edward.

Happy 70th Birthday to Richard Lynch recently.

Racing Home for Easter Festival:
This is a 5 day festival from Saturday March 30th to Wednesday 3rd April. In co-operation with the Festival Committee we at St. James’ Church have decided to host two free concerts.

  • The first concert will be on Easter Monday, April 1st at 7.30pm to 9pm.
    Dave Rea will perform on the night. Dave is well known to a lot of people and is a native of Mallow. He is a very fine vocalist and has recorded 4 albums of Country & Irish favourites that you will enjoy very much.
  • The second concert for the closing of the festival will be a Variety Concert. Date Wed. 3rd April at 8pm. Featuring: Cor-Mhagh-Ealla, St Mary’s Secondary School, Davis College Trad Group, Patrician Academy

Looking forward to seeing you on one of the nights, you have a choice. There will be an opportunity for a donation on the night to St. James’ Church Fund.

Sympathy
We wish to express our sympathy to Hannah Ijisesan on the death of her mother-in-law in Nigeria recently. To Bernard Miengue on the death of his sister Elizabeth in Cameroon. To Ruth Sherlock on the death of her uncle Jo Tanner in Ballyduff and also the wider family. To George Ellis, Lombardstown and his family on the death of his uncle Cormac McCarthy in Cork. He was laid to rest following a Service in St. Luke’s, Douglas recently.
