Christmas in the Parish – December 2013

It is the Advent season again and we wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas and all the best for 2014.

Lay Readers

Congratulations to Emmanuel Adebisi who was licensed recently as Lay Reader. To mark this occasion Canon Eithne presented him with a large print desk copy Book of Common Prayer and a copy of the Church of Ireland Directory for 2014 at a recent vestry meeting.
Thanks to David and Linda Deane for opening their house for a fundraiser last night for parish funds and to the members of the Mothers’ Union for supplying the food and to everyone who helped in any way. Thanks to everyone for coming and to all those who sent on contributions who were not able to attend on the night.

Christmas Concert

The next fundraiser is the Christmas Concert in St. James’ Church on Friday 13th December at 8pm. This is a Candlelight Christmas Concert starring Cor Mhagh Ealla, Ryan Morgan (tenor), Polyphonics Barbershop Chorus and other supporting acts. Admission is €15 in aid of Parish Funds and School Funds. Mince Pies, Mulled Wine or Tea/Coffee included.

The Parish Finances are in a bad state. The contributions from parishioners have been much less than previously was the case. Unless we improve our giving the parish will not be able to pay its way. We will be running fundraising events – please do support as many as possible.

Mothers’ Union

On the 7th November we held our round the table planning meeting. This was to plan our programme for the year ahead. Thank you to Diana Buckley for hosting this at her house. Some members traveled to the Mothers Union conference last weekend. This year it was held in the Garyvoe Hotel, Castlemartyr. Our guest speaker for the weekend was Cathy Kyte. She lives in London with her husband and family. Cathy is part of the Mothers Union faith & policy unit as faith support officer. We thank Cathy for her input for the weekend and the other workshop leaders. Also everybody who organized the event. We all came home refreshed and relaxed.

Our next event will be Afternoon tea party with a Christmas twist for people who are young at heart. This will take place at the home of Canon Tom and Hazel Sherlock, Kildorrery on the 11th December from 3-5pm. All welcome. This is for men and women. For further information please ask Ruth Sherlock or Hazel Sherlock.

Buttevant Sale

Thanks to all who supported the sale in aid of St. John’s Church Buttevant on the 24th November in the GAA Hall, Buttevant.

Doneraile Bellringers

Congratulations to the Doneraile Bellringing team who came 3rd in the Fred Bogan Bellringing competition in Limerick on Sunday 24th November. As usual the Bellringers will toll out the old year on Tuesday 31st December and ring in the New Year. If any one is interest in hearing the bells they are very welcome to come to Doneraile at around 11.45pm on the 31st and join with the Bellringers.

Congratulations to Sylvia Ladd and Cathal Lowry on the birth of their son recently and to his grandparents Thomas and Anne Ladd.
