The Diocesan Synod will be held on Saturday 7th June in the Rochestown Park Hotel from 11am following a celebration of Holy Communion in St Luke’s Church, Douglas at 9.30am. Visitors are always welcome to attend.

Lay assistants for Communion Thanks to Jackie Nagle (Doneraile) and Hazel Ladd (Castletownroche) for taking on the lay assistant for Communion. They were commissioned in the beginning of April along with the other assistants.

Alzheimers Tea Day
Thanks to all who supported the Alzheimers Tea Day at Mark and Diana Buckleys on Friday the 2nd May. There was €410 lodged for this cause.

Buttevant Remembrance Service
A service to remember our loved ones who have passed away was held in St John’s church recently. Candles were lit as we remembered over 50 people before God, who rejoice with us, but upon another shore and in a greater light, that multitude which no man can number, whose hope was in the Word made flesh, and with whom we for evermore are one.
Thanks to all who worked so hard to prepare for this service.

Chess Club
The chess club has ceased for the Summer. We thank all those involved in organising this and they will let us know when it will recommence again.

Blackwater Social Club
Thanks to all those who came and supported the BBQ and Ice Cream Sunday on Sunday 25th May at Mark and Diana Buckley’s Bridgetown, Castletownroche. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it the success that it was. It was great to see so many people of all ages mixing together and most people joining in the games and fun. €600 is being sent to Down Syndrome Ireland and the balance of over €850 (still coming in) will be given to St. Mary’s Church Castletownroche Maintenance Fund. Thanks also to those who sent on donations who weren’t able to make the day.

Mallow No 1 National School
As most people know our school is closing at the end of this term and the pupils and staff moving to the new Community National School in the GAA grounds. The Bishop is coming to conduct a service to mark the occasion on Wednesday 25th June at 11am. All parishioners and past pupils are invited to attend to celebrate all that the school has contributed to our parish over the 171 years of its existence.
We will be having our final clothes collection early this month so if you have clothes, shoes, bags etc you may put them into black bags and pass them on to the school or give them to the Rector.

Christian Aid
We will be having a UNITED SERVICE at 11am in Mallow Church on 29th June. A speaker from Christian Aid will be with us for that service. I hope that it will be well supported. This charity does great work – please do come – and remember 11am.

There will another United Service at the end of August. It is proposed that this will be a GIFT DAY in aid of our United Parish funds. It also coincides with the 50th Wedding Anniversary of the Rector and her husband who were married in St. James’ Church on 26th August 1964.
