Parish News – March 2015

Register of Vestry members
The register of vestry members has to be update annually. At our next Vestry meeting on the 3rd March we will be updating this. If you are not on the list, or not sure if you are on the list please talk to the Rector or Churchwardens and they will give you a form for completion. You need to be on the register to have a vote to elect those who you wish to have on the Select Vestry for the coming year.

The 2015 World day of Prayer will be celebrated on Friday 6th March.
The World Day of Prayer is an international and ecumenical movement celebrated worldwide on the first Friday in March annually. This year’s service has been put together by the Christian Women of the Bahama Islands in the Caribbean Sea. These islands are better known to us as a tourist paradise but the native women folk need informed prayerful action to help them in their many daily difficulties. The Doneraile celebration, one of 200 services being held in Ireland, will take place at St. Mary’s Church of Ireland on Friday 6th March at 8.15 PM. Men, Women and Children are very welcome.

Beetle Drive
On Saturday 7th February we held a beetle drive in St. James Hall, Mallow. This was a fun event and enjoyed by all.

Festival Service
This will take place on Sunday 22nd March in Christ Church, Fermoy at 3.30pm. The speaker will be Mrs. Phyllis Grothier the All Ireland President and the Bishop is also hoping to be with us.

Pampering Day
Pampering Day is on Saturday 14th March in the Trident Hotel Kinsale at 2pm. This event has proved very popular in the past so to ensure a place contact Jennifer Kingston on 086/3236641 or fill up one of the booking forms which are available in the churches.

Prayer Walk
Lismore MU have invited us to join in their Prayer Walk on Wednesday 1st April at 3pm in Tourin Garden, Cappaquin. Rev Margaret Sykes (Diocesan President of Cashel and Ossary) will be leading this walk. The Garden are free of charge but their will be a small charge for Afternoon tea. If interested please contact Ruth Sherlock as the Lismore ladies need to have numbers.

Doneraile Maintenance
The recent concert in St. Mary’s Church, Doneraile was a musical, social and financial success. The Building Maintenance Committee are sincerely grateful for the support of a large number of Mallow Union parishioners and are happy to have a healthy bank balance to meet future needs. It was encouraging to have three parishioners adding their musical talents to the performance on the night, Edward Winter, Victoria Wolfe and Nicola Barrett.

Lent Services
At our Lent services this year we are using the Church of Ireland publication “Same Sex Issues and The Bible”. This is a series of 5 Bible Studies to support the Church’s discernment process. It has been put together by William Olhausen, Ginnie Kennerley and David Compton and issued by the Biblical Association for the Church of Ireland. We will use one section each week and should you be unable to attend the service on occasion you can be provided with a copy.

Maundy Thursday 2nd April:
There is a service in Ross cathedral every year to celebrate and give thanks for the ministry of the Clergy, Readers lay church workers and all the people of the United Dioceses. Those present renew their commitment to ministry. The service is at 12 noon and everyone is welcome.
