SURVIVORSHIP MEETING IN CORK
Treatment for cancer diagnosed during childhood or adolescence is now so successful that most children and adolescents will live long and fruitful lives. However, the treatments that produce a cure in most children are harsh and can have serious health consequences for otherwise healthy organs.
CanCare4Living and the Boyne Research Institute are sponsoring a SURVIVORSHIP MEETING in the Clayton Hotel Cork City. The purpose of this meeting is to raise awareness of late effects including both health effects and psychosocial consequences for survivors, to discuss long-term follow-up, and to involve survivors in efforts to safeguard their own health. The meeting will cover general health and fertility concerns. Speakers include Dr Julianne Byrne of the Boyne Research Institute and Dr John Waterstone of the Waterstone Clinic, Cork.
DATE: Thursday 15 February, 2018
VENUE: Clayton Hotel Cork City, Lapps Quay, Cork; Tel: (0)21 422 4900
TIME: 5.30 to 7.30 pm.
Survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer, their families and friends are welcome. Also professionals in the area from haematology and oncology and related fields are welcome.

Vestry Notes from meeting 18/1/2017
Matters Arising – Drombrook still haven’t come back to finish work in St. James’.  There are drinking parties going on in St. James’ graveyard recently so the gates may have to be locked at times. Apologies for any inconvenience.
The Sale that was in the hall for Chernobyl went really well and the committee gave €200 for the use of the hall.
Correspondence – There is a map of the dioceses (A3 size) showing all the churches available for sale at €100. Proceeds going to ‘Fund for the Future’.
Finances – Jackie presented the account for the year end 31/12/2017 and they are to be audited. It looks like we have just broken even for the year. Fairshare has gone up by around €5000 so we will possibly have to look at having an extra fundraiser.
Rectory – Family bathroom Shower door roller gone, electric shower in en-suite needs replacing and back kitchen flat roof leaking
St. James’ Church – Notice board has fallen down. So new notice boards for all three churches are to be priced.
St. Mary’s Castletownroche – Trees still to be cut and boiler seem to be going OK again.
St. Mary’s Doneraile – Trees not removed yet. One radiator was leaking and has been replaced. Lock of safe to be repaired. Windows probably need to be painted but this is to be discussed at a maintenance meeting.
Renewal Group – Jig-saw Club going well with 31 children coming on different weeks. 2 of them come on Saturday but not on Sundays. There will be extra Saturdays between now and June. Thanks to Chris and team for the banners made for each of the three churches.
Charting a future with confidence – The last of the first stage of these meetings was held on 25th November. Thanks to Ina for giving us a report on this. We are all to read the Charting a Future with Confidence book before the next vestry meeting if possible.
Rural Dean’s Report- Nothing major to report on the the Rural Dean’s visit churches all seem to be in good condition. This visit is to be done every two years. We are responsible for inspections in the intervening years.
Rector’s Business – The Rector was wondering was it OK if the hall was used for a Heart Exercise Class if suitable on a Monday and Wednesday night for an hour. Agreed.
Date of next meeting 15th February (Updating Register of Vestry people) and Easter Vestry 22nd March at 8pm.
