Thanks to all for leading our services during the vacancy. Please remember in your prayers to pray for the appointment of a new Rector for our union of Parishes and for the Bishop and our Nominators. Pray they may have wisdom and discernment in all their decision making, also for the right person to hear God’s call and answer. Pray for God’s blessing on our life together and thank him for his care.
Confirmation Service 13th October
This year our confirmation candidates will be confirmed in Christ Church, Fermoy on Sunday 13th October at 10.30 am. We pray for our candidates Isabel Cagney, Gavin Barrett, Graham Caldbeck, Brian Caldbeck, William Wharton and Alex Uwumarogie. Please come to this service and support these young people. There will be only one service in Mallow Union that Sunday and that is in Mallow at 11am.

Congratulations to Robert William Gardiner and Pavlina Stankovicova who got married in St. Mary’s Church Doneraile on the 24th August. We wish them well in their future together.

Vegetable Sale
There was a very successful vegetable sale and teas at the home of John and Jean Gardiner, Mount North, Ballyclough on Saturday 7th September from 2pm till 5pm. There was a total of €450 raised at this. Thank to John, Jean and family for running this very social event and also thanks to all who came and supported it or sent a donation.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Valerie and John Ryan on the birth of their baby daughter, Tara.
Jigsaw Club
Jigsaw club was back for the beginning of a new and exciting year on Saturday 21st September at 2.30pm in the Parish hall. Thanks to all involved in this.

Congratulations
Congratulations to George and Betty Buckley on their Diamond Wedding anniversary. On the 22nd September they renewed their wedding vows in St. Mary’s Church Castletownroche in front of their family and the congregation. Thanks to Canon Peter Rhys Thomas for this service.

Harvest Thanksgiving Services
The 1st Harvest thanksgiving Service in the parish was in St. James’ Church on 22nd September at 3pm and we welcomed the Rev. Anne Skuse to lead our celebrations. We also thank all those who
contributed to the collection which this year is going to the CanTalk cancer support group, who meet each week in Mallow. The amount raised from the collection was €320. Thanks to all involved in this service and thanks to Rev Anne for coming and taking the service.
Doneraile Harvest thanksgiving service is on today the 6th October and Castletownroche Harvest Service is on the 20th October at 3pm.
Thanks
Those who attend St. Mary’s, Doneraile, or who pass by regularly, will notice that we have a smart new notice board on which we inform people of our special Services – Family, Harvest Thanksgiving, etc. This is thanks to Ina Lillis and her boys. Together they worked hard to come up with a sturdy notice board that would withstand the weather and other damaging effects, and all at their own expense – so a big “thank you” to Ina, Jimmy and William!
Our opening service was held on Wednesday 25th September in St. James’ Church, Mallow. Thanks to Emmanuel Adebisi for taking the service, readers Ina Lillis and Linda Deane, prayers Hazel Sherlock and music Susan Buckley. Also thank you to Hilary Dring Diocesan President who gave a very interesting and vibrant talk on her recent trip to the MU General Meeting in Portsmouth and also on MU in general. Thanks to everyone who came and helped with refreshments after service. Last Saturday 28th September Cork Dioceses organised a trip to the Buffalo Mozzarella Farm in Macroom. Three ladies from Mallow went and had a very enjoyable day.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 16th October at 8pm in St. James’ Hall Mallow.
Reminder: MU Weekend will be held on Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th November at Garryvoe Hotel Castlemartyr if interested contact Ruth Sherlock 086/1588719.
On October 8th Area meeting will be held in Adair Hall, Fermoy at 8pm.

CDYC
We have an exciting Advent Challenge set up for our Cork teens.
Two chapters a week on the Gospel of Mark over the next 8 weeks. Very do-able!
To be in with a chance of winning a CASH PRIZE (1st €50, 2nd €35 & 3rd €20), all they have to do is follow the reading plan and then write a short 500 word piece on what they have learned from the Gospel of Mark and why Jesus Matters?
I have a resource book in which they can use, produced by CIYD, called FUEL.
I can get copies to whoever would like to accept the challenge.
All entries must be returned to me by the 1st December.
Please check out the CDYC Facebook page for a video, from our CIYD representative, Simon Henry, with more information.
Simon was our guest speaker in Cape Clear this year and also spoke on Jesus Matters!
Get reading and writing!
Looking forward it.

Regards,
Hilda Connolly.

Our last years LIT students have been working hard at putting together a new event. At 7pm on the 27th Oct, we will board a bus to the West Cork Secret for some Halloween fun and pizza, before heading back to Clonakilty Parochial Hall for a movie and a sleepover. Collection at 10am on the 28th Oct from the hall. Spaces are limited, so download your form from the website and get the form and fee to me ASAP! I can’t guarantee your place until I receive both, please.
On the 9th Nov, we are running a team bonding day in the Escape Rooms in Cork and a bit of early Christmas shopping! Forms will be available soon. Again, spaces will be limited
On the 1st Dec, will be our Annual Advent Service in Ross Cathedral. Always a big hit as we start our preparation for Christmas.
On the 7th-8th Dec, our annual Shopping trip and Youth Service. BUT this year we will be heading to Newbridge Shopping centre and onto the Curragh for our service and sleepover. Don’t panic…there is a PENNEYS in Newbridge too! Details to follow.
I think that is everything for now.
If you have any questions, please do contact me.
