Congratulations to our Doneraile Bell-ringers for taking part in the Murphy Cup in Dublin on the 8th June during a very busy time with farming and other commitments. Well done on coming 4th in the competition.

Mini Fete 23rd June

Leah and Sean Flynn would like to thank all those who supported them by helping with the teas, baking, donated, bought, played music, cleaned up and made their mini fete a great success. To date a sum of €3,640 has been reached with all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society. Hopefully this has included everyone!

United Service

Our United Service in the month of June was in Castletownroche when our rector got a big surprise when the two church wardens came up the aisle with a birthday cake at the end of the service and everyone started singing Happy Birthday. So again Happy Birthday Canon Eithne.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Eddie and Margaret Gabriel on the birth of their first grand- daughter. And also to Willie and Myrtle Forde on the recent birth of their grand-daughter, a daughter to Olivia and Seamus Clifford and a sister for Ruby and Katie who they have called Faye Olivia.

Wedding

Congratulations to Catherine O’Riordan and Ian Travers who travelled from Australia to be married in St. Mary’s Church Doneraile on Saturday 29th June. Catherine’s mother is from Doneraile and Ian is from England, where he sang as a choirboy from the age of six. His musical friends played and sang at the wedding. We wish them every blessing as they return to Australia.

Sympathy

We wish to express our sympathy to the family of Bernie Deane of Burnfort who was buried recently in St. Mary’s Doneraile. To his nieces and nephews living here in the parish Tom and Robert Deane, Susan Buckley, Hazel O’Keeffe, Brian Deane and Myrtle Forde.

Royal National Lifeboat Institute

There will be a collection after each of the three churches for the RNLI on Sunday the 14th July. Please give to this very worthy cause.

North Cork Classical Music

A delightful evening of music is in store on Thursday 18 July at 8.15pm when popular Welsh lyric tenor Ryan Morgan sings in St Mary’s Church, Castletownroche. Parishioners will remember his wonderful voice from last year’s Christmas concert. The programme will include numbers from the light classical and classic American musicals repertoires, so it should satisfy most tastes. Parish Fete 17th August

Please support the Parish Fete on Saturday 17th August from 11am to 3pm. There is a charge of €2 at the gate for Adults and children are free. There will be a raffle on the gate ticket. There will be all the usual stalls and a raffle and the 1st Prize €100, 2nd prize a hamper, 3rd prize a hamper plus numerous other prizes. We are asking all parishioners to contribution to the hamper again this year and it with be put together at the discretion of the Fete committee. If you have any other prizes you want included in the raffle please let one of the committee know before the Fete. The committee is Canon Eithne, Linda Deane, John Gardiner, Jackie Nagle, Richard Lynch and Diana Buckley. Please ensure any items you send in for the Fete this year are in good working condition and that there are no items out of date.

ANNUAL ELIZABETH BOWEN COMMEMORATION

This year’s Commemoration Service for Elizabeth Bowen will take place on Sunday 15 September at 3.30pm in St Colman’s Church Farahy. The address will be given by Rev Dr Robert Tobin of Oriel College, University of Oxford and the service will be conducted by Very Rev R.B. MacCarthy with local Catholic clergy. As usual the service will be in the old form of Evening Prayer. A warm welcome is extended to all who would like to attend.

There will be no Services in St. James on Wednesdays for July/August
